What a fantastic day today was! Great to see so many children enjoying their ‘olympic’ events this morning followed by some superb races this afternoon.
Thanks must go to all the children for competing so hard and in good spirits on a scorching hot day also to all the sports leaders, teachings and helpers who made it possible and to all the parents for their support throughout the day!
Congratulations to all of those children who scored the most points in their year and a big congratulations to all the children in Selsley who wrestled back the shield after Haresfield after a 4 year winning streak!
Today 6 children represented Gastrells at the Panathlon Challenge at Stroud Leisure centre.
The challenge is a series of skill stations based on inclusive sports such as Boccia, New Age Kurling, football and Table Cricket. Others include activities are aimed at developing key fundamentals such as running, jumping, throwing, and target-based games. The team had to collect points from each activity station.
Well done to all the children involved, they performed brilliantly winning a bronze medal after finishing 3rd.
A huge well done to the 10 children who played in our Y5/6 tag rugby team and finished 2nd in the Stroud district at this year’s finals. After an undefeated run to the finals Gastrells lost their opening game of the finals 6-4 to Leonard Stanley, who were the eventual winners. Their second game saw a very close encounter against Avening which finished 4-4 and they rounded off the round robin tournament with a 5-3 victory against Callowell. As a result of finishing runners up Gastrells for the second year running earnt themselves a place at this year’s county finals at Hartpury college in April.
Well done to our Y3/4 football team who played their first game together today. I was impressed with how they kept battling away until the final whistle however in the end the result read Callowell 6 Gastrells 1. It was great to see many children representing the school for the first time with great determination and enthusiasm, well done to everyone involved.
